Mimi Schippers received a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States. She is currently Professor of Sociology and Gender & Sexuality Studies and Chair of the Department of Sociology at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
Her research revolves around theorizing masculinities, femininities, and sexualities and focuses on how everyday interactions and subcultural practices reinforce, challenge, or reconfigure race, gender, class, and sexual hierarchies.
She is author of the following books:
Polyamory, Monogamy, and American Dreams: The Stories We Tell About Poly Lives and the Cultural Production of Inequality (Routledge);
Beyond Monogamy: Polyamory and the Future of Polyqueer Sexualities (New York University Press);
Rockin’ Out of the Box: Gender Maneuvering in Alternative Hard Rock (Rutgers University Press).
Currently, she is writing a book on relationship orientations and affect.
